(english)Das Künstlerduo Kübe (Katrin Metallica Kinsler und Julia Flora Wenz) arbeitet mit den Medien Installation, Collage, Fotografie und Video. Wie es im Titel der Ausstellung „Graphen“ antönt, kreisen unsere Arbeiten um Begriffe wie Grenzen, Verortung und Stilisierung. In ihren vielen und unterschiedlich anmutenden Arbeiten verhandeln wir einen neuen Kartenbegriff, der kulturelle, politische, soziale, kunsthistorische, ethische somit auch kartographische Aspekte einschliesst.

"Kübe" als einheitlich agierendes Künstlerduo zu bezeichnen, wäre falsch. Die "Lernkarte von Deutschland" (270 cm x 200 cm, 2006) veranschaulicht den künstlerischen Dialog der Charaktere Metallica und Flora, der sich über Monate - teils parallel teils zeitversetzt - auf der Karte zugetragen hat. Dabei beziehen wir Stellung auf für uns relevante Themen aus unserem soziokulturellen Erleben. Dazu verwenden wir Versatzstücke aus dem global-visuellen Informationspool und collagieren sie auf das vorhandene Kartenmaterial, um so Ganzheitlichkeit heraufzubeschwören. Die überarbeiteten Schulkarten erheben Anspruch auf Komplexität und Aktualität.

Kübe fragt bewusst nach der Authentizität der Landkarten in Bezug auf den aktuellen Informationsstand in unserer sich ständig im Wandel befindenden Welt.

GRAPHS, 2006/2007

The artist duo Kübe (Katrin Metallica Kinsler und Julia Flora Wenz) works with the media of installation, collage, photography and video. As implied in the title of the exhibition “Graphs”, our work revolves around concepts like boundaries, placement and stylisation. In our many and apparently dissimilar works we explore a new mapping concept, which incorporates cultural, political, social, art-historical, ethical as well as cartographical aspects.

It would be wrong to describe “Kübe” as an artist duo that acts as a consistent unit. “Lernkarte von Deutschland” (Learning Map of Germany) (270 cm x 200 cm, 2006) visualises the artistic dialogue between the characters Metallica and Flora, who, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes staggered, inscribed themselves onto the map over a period of months. By doing this we assert our standpoint in relation to themes that are relevant to us from our socio-cultural experience. We utilize set pieces from the pool of global visual information and collage them onto the existing map material to evoke a feeling of holistic completion. The reworked school maps lay claim to complexity and contemporary relevance.
Kübe consciously questions the authenticity of maps in relation to the current state of information in our constantly changing world.
