Wenigen ist bekannt, dass der Schriftsteller Thomas Mann im amerikanischen Exil als Komparse bei den Dreharbeiten zu King Kong beteiligt war und den Monsterfilm als Umsetzung seiner Roman-Tetralogie Josephus interpretierte.
Nach diesen Erfahrungen entschließt sich Thomas Mann, selbst das Drehbuch für einen Katastrophenfilm zu entwickeln, der dem Untergang seines großbürgerlichen Chauvinismus geweiht sein soll - aus Josephus wird Josephine, die er in einer langen spirituellen Reise durch die Welt zu den Wurzeln der Religionen und Mythen in sich befreien kann.

Thomas Mann, typischer Vertreter des deutschen Bürgertums, wird als liebevoller Fetischist konservativer Rollenklischees zum Don Quijote seiner alten Welt, die sich im Absurden schließlich überwindet und befreit.

Inhaltsübersicht

Buch I

Thomas Mann leckt im Garten den Tau von den Grashalmen, im Bärenfell des Wagner-Sängers Heinrich Knote, als er von seiner Frau Katia und Tochter Elisabeth gefunden und versorgt wird, um die nächste Lesung im Theater Urania zu halten.
Thomas Mann möchte sich ganz wie Jesus im Korintherbrief des Paulus in einen soma pneumaticon verwandeln, einen geistigen Körper, doch Katia kümmert sich mit Nachdruck um sein irdisches Erscheinen.
Thomas Mann spricht im Theater Urania in einer Collage von Originalzitaten als Stimme der Nation von der Veredelung des Menschen durch den Krieg, der Verlotterung durch die Demokratie und der akuten Bedrohung durch die Macht weiblicher Gefühle. In einem Zitat von 1919 begrüßt er die Sehnsucht nach einem Dritten Reich, das aus dem Krieg geboren wird.

In der Zeit danach setzt langsam ein Wandel ein.
Thomas Mann beginnt seine Josephus-Tetralogie und beschäftigt sich zunehmend mit Kintopp und Katastrophenfilmen.
Katia Mann übernimmt mit Guido, dem Klebebart, die Vortragsreisen für ihren Mann, der

1928 den Nobelpreis verweigert und stattdessen als schwedische Lichterkönigin durch das nächtliche Stockholm wandelt.

Doch seine Vergangenheit holt ihn mit der Machtergreifung Hitlers ein. Um nicht dem Sumpf seiner antisemitischen Neigungen nachzugeben, lässt er sich von Katia überreden, ins Ausland zu gehen.

In Sanary-sur-Mer an der Cote d'Azur , der ersten Station des Exils untersucht Thomas Mann in Predigten an die kleine Exilgemeinschaft die Frage der Mutter in uns. Er zitiert Angelius Silesius ("ich muß Maria sein und Gott aus mir gebären"). Erste Absagen der amerikanischen Studios treffen ein, die Inszenierung eines Selbstmordversuches scheitert romantisch.

Während der Überfahrt nach Amerika beschäftigt sich Thomas Mann mit seinen brasilianischen Wurzeln und dem Geisterkult des Cadomblé. Seine Mutter erscheint ihm als Meeresgöttin Yemanja.
Durch die Hinrichtung eines Kunsthändlers und des Kapitäns spirituell gereinigt, erreicht er das gelobte Land.

Buch II

In Los Angelos angekommen, besucht er als erstes die Reste der Kulissen des antiken Babylons aus dem Film "Intolerance".
Er findet Arbeit als Komparse bei King Kong, in dem er die Geschichte des alten Testaments erkennt und entschließt sich, selbst ein Drehbuch für einen Katastrophenfilm zu schreiben.
Während der Recherchen beginnt er eine amour fou mit dem amerikanischen FBI-Chef J. Edgar Hoover.
Thomas Mann wird vom FBI-Chef als Geisha-Schwester im hauseigenen Hanimachi (Blumengarten) im 5. Stockwerk des Justizministeriums ausgebildet und studiert mit seinem Mentor kabbalistische Mystik, deren Spuren er schließlich nach Jamaica folgt, wo er als Führer der Ras Tafari die schwarzen Kinder Israels heim nach Jerusalem führen möchte. Die Reise über Casablanca, Kairo, Jerusalem, Medina und Kathmandu setzt die Suche nach seinen spirituellen Wurzeln fort. Im tibetanischen Hochgebirge findet er Erfüllung in der Liebe zur Yak-Kuh Argentina. Die SS-Expedition Ernst-Schäfer findet einige Monate später den verwahrlosten Thomas Mann und vermutet in ihm den Schneemenschen, das arische Urwesen, das hier an der Vegetationsgrenze Gedichte Baudelaires in sein Fell murmelt. Dr. Ernst Schäfer nimmt das Wesen ins nächste Kloster mit und verkauft es den Klosterfestspielen als Lutzen, den Dämon des Nordens von gewaltiger Fressgier. Schließlich gelingt Thomas Mann die Flucht und er treibt auf einer aufgeblasenen Kuhhaut den Jang-Tse hinab.

Thomas Mann erreicht Japan auf dem Höhepunkt des zweiten Weltkrieges und wird in Kyoto von einer Geisha-Mutter adoptiert.
Nachdem Thomas Mann einem Fluch Hoovers zufolge eine Nacht lang 1000 Dämonen Japans verkörperte, erreicht er bei einem Spaziergang durch Kyoto die Erleuchtung und schreibt die Autobiographie Buddhas.
Thomas Mann erwacht verwandelt mit Buddhas Vagina und vollzieht in einem japanischen Nachtclub das heilige Kagura-Ritual.
Kriegswirren vertreiben schließlich Thomas Mann, der über Ozeanien und Australien nach Indien zurückkehrt, wo er einige Zeit als Wanderprediger lebt.
Schließlich trifft Thomas Mann als Großmufti von Samsara in Rom ein, einer Stadt in der Anarchie der letzten Kriegstage, um in einer Papstaudienz ökumenische Fragen seines geplanten Buches Josephine zu beraten.
Damit sind alle Vorbereitungen getroffen, die Arbeit am Katastrophenfilm kann beginnen, der sich schließlich in Band III in Romanform entfaltet und die Vernichtung der bürgerlich-chauvinistischen Identität Thomas Manns stellvertretend für uns alle vollzieht, als moderner, transidentischer Christus: eine Heilsgeschichte.

Buch III

Thomas Mann beendet den Krieg, indem er Edith Piaf als Catcherin ausbildet und als Feldmarschall Finkelstein verkleidet in das Hauptquartier des Führers in Berlin einschleust.
Japan bezwingt er durch Abwurf von mikronesischen Geldmünzen der Insel Yap, die mehrere Tonnen schwer sind und dem japanischen Kriegsminister den großen Zehen und sein Selbstbewusstsein zermalmen.
Thomas Mann kann sich jetzt dem Drehbuch zu seinem Katastrophenfilm Josephine widmen, der an dieser Stelle als Buch im Buch folgt, Arbeitstitel Buddhas Muschi: in der klassischen buddhistischen Lehre gehört Buddhas Vagina zu den 64 besonderen körperlichen Merkmalen des Erleuchteten, die ihn von Geburt an auszeichnen, neben einer blonden Haarlocke als drittes Auge, Gazellenbeinen und glücksbringenden Hakenkreuzen auf den Fußsohlen.

Josephine - ein Katastrophenfilm von Thomas Mann

Im Prolog gräbt Elia, ein Busfahrer in Los Angelos, hinter seinem Haus nach dem antiken Rom. Als Mystiker über den Grund des Seins wirft er einen prophetischen Bogen über das kommende Geschehen.

In dem Katastrophenfilm Josephine droht eine kosmische Welle weiblicher Gefühle die Menschheit, wie wir sie kennen, auszulöschen.
Einige Männer wehren sich.
In der Rolle des Gottes Shiva, der die rituelle Vernichtung der Erde verfolgt, versucht der amerikanische Präsident George Ford Jr. aufzuhalten, was nicht mehr aufzuhalten ist.
Thomas Mann stellt ihm einen Gegenspieler gegenüber, den Erhalter des Kosmos, Gott Vischnu in Gestalt des untätigen Geheimagenten Melvin Plexus, der mit Gedichten und dem Gebot des Nicht-Handelns (Lao-Tse) die Welt retten will, beauty will kill the beast.
Thomas Mann selbst erscheint als Brahma im drei-einigen Schöpfungskosmos des dritten Buches.

Kali Yuga, das schwarze Zeitalter, wird von der Entstehung bis zum Untergang erzählt.

Dick Cheney hat den Linga des Präsidenten geraubt, der sich schließlich unter dem Namen Horst in der privaten Wunderkammer von Siegfried & Roy wieder findet, die den Linga später ihrer Freundin Leni Riefenstahl schenken. Sie nimmt Horst mit ins Grab. Agent Zkum erhält den Auftrag, den Linga des Präsidenten zu retten, er gräbt die Leiche Riefenstahls aus, die jedoch wiedererwacht und den Agenten im offenen Grab vergewaltigt. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Vereinigung kann der Agent mit den Zähnen den Linga des Präsidenten aus dem vermoderten Schoß der Widergängerin entreißen.
Zkum reist damit nach Benares, der Heimstatt Shivas und lässt den Linga im heiligen Ganges mit einer brennenden Kerze flussabwärts treiben.
George Ford Jr. kommt zu spät. Am Ufer des Ganges rezitiert er elegische Gedichte und verabschiedet sich von Horst mit einem Runentanz.

Sein Gegenspieler Vischnu / Melvin Plexus erlebt während dessen noch einmal seine Geburt, zuerst im Meer des kreativen Urschleims nach einem Flugzeugabsturz und schließlich als Buddha aus dem Schoß von Niki de Saint Phalle, die ihr Baby im Künstlerwahn in eine Schrottcollage klebt. Klein-Buddha kann sich befreien, begibt sich auf die Suche nach seinem Vater und findet ihn in Tarzan (Jane Fonda als Barbarella). Die Familie ist komplett.

Thomas Mann spaltet im Katastrophenfilm sein Ich in die Götter-Tria Schiva, Vischnu und Brahma, um in Ford Jr./Shiva sein altes Ich zu vernichten und in Vischnu/Melvin Plexus/Josephine sein neues anzunehmen.

Die blutrünstige Göttin Kali (Penelope Cruz) die aus einer bolivianischen Physikerin wächst, löscht durch ein Massaker der Liebe die apokalyptischen Sehnsüchte George Ford Juniors und liest mit Melvin Plexus Gedichte.
Kali, Niki de Saint Phalle und Barbarella verschmelzen zur weiblichen Shakti der Götter-Tria.

Währenddessen bastelt eine feministische Untergrundgruppe um Trevira Bonobo an einer Bombe, die alle Männer auslöscht, ändert jedoch ihren Plan ab auf die Vernichtung von Männern, die kleiner als 180 cm sind.
Ihre langfristige Zukunftsvision ist aber die Rückkehr aller Lebewesen ins Meer als lichterfüllter Urschleim.

Schließlich gelingt es Melvin Plexus, die nächste Monsterwelle weiblicher Gefühle, die die Erde überflutet, in der mexikanischen Gemüseverkäuferin Maria Sanchez (Winona Ryder) zu bannen.
Thomas Mann beendet die letzte Lesung seines Lebens im Schwanenfedernmantel im Züricher Schauspielhaus mit einer Rede Elias, dem zweitwichtigsten Propheten nach Mose in Gestalt des italienischen Busfahrers, der nach seinem Auftritt im Prolog hier den Vorhang schließt, occhie, stelle mortale.

Very few people are aware of the fact that whilst in exile in America the writer Thomas Mann worked as an extra on the movie set for "King Kong" and that he considered the monster movie to be the screen adaptation of his "Joseph" tetralogy. As a result of this experience Thomas Mann decides to write his own script for a catastrophe movie to be dedicated to the demise of his upper middle-class chauvinism - Joseph becomes Josephine, who he, on a long spiritual journey to the roots of religions and myths around the world, emancipates in himself.

As a result of his affectionate fetish for conservative stereotypes Thomas Mann, a typical representative of German bourgeoisie, becomes a Don Quixote of his old world, which in turn absurdly conquers and liberates itself.

Book I

Thomas Mann, wearing a bearskin belonging to the Wagner singer Heinrich Knote, is in the garden licking dew from the grass when his wife Katia and daughter Elisabeth find him and prepare him for the next reading at the Urania Theatre. Thomas Mann wants to transform into a soma pneumaticon, a spirit-like body, just like Jesus did in Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians, but Katia makes a point of taking care of his earthly manifestation. In the Urania Theatre Thomas Mann speaks as voice of the nation in a collage of verbatim quotes about the ennoblement of humankind through war, the degeneration brought about by democracy and the acute threat of the power of female emotion. In a quote from 1919 he welcomes the yearning for a Third Reich that will be born out of war.

In the time that follows change slowly sets in.
Thomas Mann begins his Joseph tetralogy and increasingly devotes himself to cinema and catastrophe movies.
Together with Guido, the fake moustache, Katia Mann resumes her husband's lecture circuit. He in turn refuses the Nobel Prize in 1928 and instead promenades through night-time Stockholm as the Swedish Queen of Lights.

With Hitler's seizure of power though, his past catches up with him. In order not to submit to the quagmire of his anti-Semitic tendencies, he lets Katia persuade him to go abroad.

In Sanary-sur-Mer on the Cote d'Azur, the first station of their exile, Thomas Mann examines the question of the mother in us in sermons to the small exile-community. He quotes Angelus Silesius ("I must be Virgin Mary and carry God in me"). The first rejections from the American studios arrive; the staged suicide attempt fails romantically.

During the crossing to America Thomas Mann occupies himself with his Brazilian roots and the spiritual Cadomblé cult. His mother appears to him as the ocean goddess Yemanjá. Spiritually cleansed through the execution of an art dealer and the captain, he reaches the Promised Land.

Book II

The first thing he does on arriving in Los Angeles is to visit the remains of the film-set of ancient Babylon for the film "Intolerance".
He finds work as an extra for the film "King Kong", which he recognises as the story of the Old Testament and decides to write his own script for a catastrophe movie.
During his research he begins an ill-fated love affair with the American FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover.
Thomas Mann is educated as a Geisha sister in the in-house Hanimachi (flower garden) on the 5th storey of the Department of Justice and together with his mentor he studies kabbalistic mysticism. This eventually leads him to Jamaica, where he, as leader of the Rastafari movement, wishes to lead the black children of Israel home to Jerusalem. On his journey via Casablanca, Cairo, Jerusalem, Medina and Kathmandu he continues to search for his spiritual roots. In the Tibetan highlands he finds fulfilment in his love to the yak cow Argentina. Several months later the SS Expedition Ernst-Schäfer comes across the dishevelled Thomas Mann and believes that it is Yeti, the primordial Aryan being, who is mumbling Baudelaire's poetry into his fur coat at the upper limit of vegetation. Dr. Ernst Schäfer takes the creature to the next monastery and sells it to the monastery pageant as Lutzen, the gluttonous man-eating Demon Lord of the North. Thomas Mann finally manages to escape and floats down the Yangtze on an inflated cowhide.

Thomas Mann arrives in Japan at the height of the Second World War and is adopted by a Geisha mother.
After Thomas Mann spends one night as the incarnation of 1000 Japanese demons, the result of a curse placed on him by Hoover, he attains enlightenment whilst going for a stroll through Kyoto and subsequently writes Buddha's autobiography.
Thomas Mann awakens transformed with Buddha's vagina and performs the sacred kagura ritual in a Japanese nightclub.
The chaos of war finally finds Thomas Mann in exile; he returns to India via Oceania and Australia, where he lives for a while as an itinerant preacher. Finally Thomas Mann arrives as the Grand Mufti of Samsara in Rome - a city in the throes of anarchy during the final days of the war - where he seeks papal advice on ecumenical issues in his planned book "Josephine". Therewith his preparations are complete, work on his catastrophe movie can begin. This finally unfolds in novel form in Volume III and the annihilation of Thomas Mann's bourgeois-chauvinistic identity is carried out for us as a modern, transgender Christ: A history of salvation.

Book III

Thomas Mann ends the war by training Edith Piaf in the art of wrestling and infiltrating her into the Fuehrer's Headquarters disguised as Field Marshal Finkelstein. He defeats Japan by dropping Micronesian coins from the Yap Islands, each weighing several tons, which crush both the Japanese Minister of War's big toe and self-confidence.
Thomas Mann can now devote himself fully to the script for his catastrophe movie "Josephine", which now follows as a book in a book, under the working title of "Buddha's Pussy". In classical Buddhist teachings Buddha's vagina is one of 64 physical characteristics, which distinguish the enlightened one from birth, along with a wisp of soft blonde hair that represents his third eye, legs of a gazelle and luck-bringing swastikas on the soles of his feet.

Josephine - A Catastrophe Movie by Thomas Mann

In the prologue Elias, a bus driver in Los Angeles, is digging behind his house in search of ancient Rome. As a mystic on the Reason of Being he casts a prophetic shadow over what is yet to come.

In the catastrophe movie "Josephine" a cosmic wave of female emotion threatens to annihilate humankind, as we know it. Several men fight back. In the role of the deity Shiva, who pursues the ritual destruction of the earth, the American President George Ford Jr. tries to put a stop to that, which is no longer stoppable.
Thomas Mann confronts him with an adversary, the preserver of the universe, the God Vishnu in the form of the passive secret agent Melvin Plexus, who wants to save the world with poems and the concept of non-action (Laotse), beauty will kill the beast.
Thomas Mann himself appears as Brahma in the triune cosmos of creation in the third book.

Kali Yuga, the Dark Age, is recounted from its creation to its downfall.

Dick Cheney has stolen the President's Lingam, which is eventually recovered under the name of Horst in Siegfried & Roy's private Wunderkammer (collection of curiosities). They later give it to their friend Leni Riefenstahl and she takes Horst with her to the grave. Agent Zkum is assigned the task of retrieving the President's Lingam, he exhumes the corpse of Leni Riefenstahl, who however reawakens and rapes the agent in the open grave. At the climax of this union the agent manages to snatch the President's Lingam from the revenant's decaying womb with his teeth. Zkum then journeys with it to Benares, Shiva's ancestral home, and lets the Lingam float downstream on the sacred Ganges together with a burning candle. George Ford Jr. arrives too late. He recites elegiac poetry on the banks of the Ganges and bids farewell to Horst with a rune dance.

In the meantime his adversary Vishnu / Melvin Plexus is reborn; first in the ocean of creative primordial sludge after a plane crash and then ultimately as Buddha from the womb of Niki de Saint Phalle, who in an art-induced delirium glues her baby into a junk collage. Little Buddha manages to get free, and embarks on a search for his father and finds him in the form of Tarzan (Jane Fonda as Barbarella). The family is complete.

In the catastrophe movie Thomas Mann divides his "self" into the divine Trinity of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, in order to destroy his old self in Ford Jr. / Shiva and to take on his new self in Vishnu / Melvin Plexus / Josephine.

A female Bolivian physicist transforms into the bloodthirsty goddess Kali (Penelope Cruz), who extinguishes George Ford Junior's apocalyptic aspirations through a massacre of love and recites poetry with Melvin Plexus. Kali, Niki de Saint Phalle and Barbarella merge together to become the female Shaktis of the divine Trinity.

Meanwhile a feminist underground group around Trevira Bonobo is building a bomb, which will eradicate all men, but then amends its plan to only exterminate men shorter than 180 cm. Their long-term vision for the future is that all life shall return to the oceans as light-suffused primordial sludge.

Finally Melvin Plexus succeeds in banishing the next monster wave of female emotion that floods the earth to the Mexican vegetable saleswoman Maria Sanchez (Winona Ryder). Thomas Mann ends the last reading of his life wearing a coat of swan feathers in the Zurich Theatre with a speech by Elias, the second most important prophet after Moses in the guise of the Italian bus driver, who following his appearance in the prologue now drops the curtain, occhie, stelle mortale.
