Auftritt mit Bildern, Klängen und Texten aus dem Buch „33 Träume“ von Chris Mennel

Hier steigt die Party
Tempel haben tolle Treppen.
Ich liebe Aufstiege.
Jaja, ich rede mindestens zur Hälfte
vom Absteigen.

Jaja, ich bin ein Fan von
kaputten Hütten.
Ich habe ja auch nicht vom
Tempelbau und vom Treppenbau geredet.
Ich rede vom Tempelgefühl,
vom Wunschtempel:
Mein Luftschloss ist
ein Tempel.
Ich wünsche keine Opfer darin.
Sex soll da drin sein.
Es muss nicht lecker gegessen werden.
Stellt Schalen mit Obst hinein.
Trinken ist okay.
Und dann: Schlafen wir manchmal ein dort.
Träumen wir gelegentlich
in diesem Traumtempel.
Wohin träumen wir?
Dahin, dass überhaupt mal gewagt werden kann,
im Traum gezielt eine Richtung einzuschlagen.
Dafür soll mein Tempel dienen:
Steigt auf! Verdammt hoch!
Bleibt lange aufgestiegen!
Feiert!

Staunend sah ich diesen Gedichten zu, wie sie wuchsen und wucherten, und tatsächlich ein jedes Fotogemälde im Buch abholten.

Mit dem Begriff "Fotogemälde" habe ich die von mir als erstes angestrebte Substanz des Buches erwähnt: Das digitale Heraushüpfen aus anfangs mülligen, zufallsgeborenen, analogen Foto-Dunkelkammer-Schnipseln. Der surreale Hammer. Ich bin Dali-Fan.

Im Buch sind die Rohbilder des Anfangs wiedergegeben und Episoden ihres Wucherns, wenn ich mit dem Digitalpinsel am Computerbildschirm malte. Üblicherweise präsentiert der Profi Kargeres. Ich mag aber Opulentes - und hier eben knie ich mich hinein auch in Entstehungsgeschichten von Prachtbildern - heraus aus armen Fotoresten.

Ich fürchte, es gibt keine älteren Foto-Zeugnisse von mir als diese überlebenden Fotoschnipsel. Sie rühren mich. Deshalb bringe ich so viel Zeit und Energie für sie auf und nehme mir vor: "Das unterlässt du bei späteren Digital-Gemälden". "33 Träume" möchte Bezüge des Buchlesers herstellen zu erstens dem Ehren von lang schon Vorhandenem und zweitens zu Wachstum, Gründlichkeit, zum Prozess von Kunstentstehung.

This is where the party starts
Temples have great steps.
I love steps up.
Yeah, I’m talking at least as much
about steps down.

Yeah, I'm a fan of
broken huts.
And I wasn’t talking about
temple building or stair construction.
I’m talking about the feel of the temple,
the temple of my dreams.
My castle in the air is
a temple.
I don’t want any sacrifices in it.
There should be sex there.
No need for delicious food.
Put bowls of fruit in it.
Drinking is okay.
And then: we sometimes fall asleep there.
Dream from time to time
in this dream temple.
Where do we dream ourselves to?
To where it’s even possible
to set off in a deliberate direction in a dream.
My temple should help with that:
Climb up! Bloody high!
Stay up for a long time!
Party!

I watched this poem with amazement as it grew and sprawled, and actually picked up each photo-picture in the book.

I use the term ‘photo-picture’ to refer to the original intended substance of the book: what starts as scrappy, random, analogue darkroom clippings leaping out digitally. The surreal hammer. I’m a Dali fan.

In the book the raw images from the beginning are reproduced and episodes of their sprawling, when I painted at my computer screen using a digital brush. Usually the professional presents a more meagre offering. But I like the opulent – and here I also dig in to the genesis of magnificent pictures – made out of poor photo leftovers.

I fear there are no older photographic records of me than these surviving photo snippets. They move me. That’s why I spend so much time and energy on them and say to myself: ‘You leave that out in later digital pictures.’ 33 Dreams aims to establish connections for the book’s reader, first with the honouring of what has long existed, and second with growth, thoroughness, the process of creating art.
