Dein Klub dreht W O T Ø R W O E R L D

Die Abstellkammer im Hinterhof eines kleinen ehrenamtlich betriebenen Kunstvereins in Stuttgart oder ihre maßstabsgetreue Kopie auf Tour ("Dein Klon") wird seit 2002 zur interaktiven Bühne für die Dreharbeiten an einigen der berühmtesten Hollywoodfilme aller Zeiten.

Die Stammbesetzung von Dein Klub lädt alle Gäste oder gastgebende Bevölkerungen anderer Orte dazu ein, als ständig wechselnde Darsteller/innen in ständig wechselnden Rollen die Erstellung vielstimmiger, durch persönlichen Einsatz angereicherter Kopien zeitgenössischer virtuoser Werke der Filmindustrie zu schaffen.

Dabei verbinden sich spontane Spielfreude - ermöglicht durch den niederschwelligen Takt des Schnitts, durch den auch von unerfahrenen Laien eine überzeugende Spannung erzeugt werden kann - mit größtmöglichem Ernst und berührender seelischer Tiefe, die das Ergebnis wunderbarerweise seit Jahren tragen.

Gleichzeitig ermöglicht das stark auf gemeinschaftlicher Improvisation basierende Set die Reflexion des menschlichen Kerns der monumentalen Filmvorlagen, der die Grundlage ihres Erfolgs beim Publikum ausmacht.

Die Kammer hat die Maße 2,50 auf 4 Meter, ihre Kopie auf Tourneen sollte etwas abgerückt von Wänden frei stehen und hat transparente Wände aus Malerfolie. Alle Requisiten und Kostüme werden möglichst spontan zusammengestellt, Gesten, Psychologie und Kameraführung erarbeiten wir für jede einzelne Einstellung 100% analog.

Alle Einsätze der Darsteller/innen werden seit Jahren in der Online-Galerie auf dieser Site dokumentiert.

In größeren Zeitabständen wird eine DVD der Ergebnisse exklusiv für alle Teilnehmenden produziert.

Seit 2009 liefert James Camerons "Titanic" die Vorlage für den Nachfolge-Teil 4 des W O T Ø R W O E R L D -Projektes (als "Down to Wetland")

Mit eigener darstellerischer Beteiligung wird der Mythos der selbstaufopfernden Liebe eines unternehmungslustigen jungen amerikanischen Migranten, die eine der größten Katastrophen der Moderne - den Untergang der "Titanic" - zu überwinden vermag, nachvollzogen.

Erster, dem Projekt seinen Namen gebender Teil war der in fünf Jahren nachgedrehte Film Waterworld von und mit Kevin Costner, der 1995 in deutschen Kinos lief. Damals der teuerste Film der Welt - und bei der Kritik ein Flopp.

Rührende Bastelfreude bei den Bauten und Requisiten. Die unbefangen narzisstische Tüftlerwelt eines Helden auf seinem vorpubertären Ökoboot. Archetypische Fantasien.

Ein kompliziertes, nervenaufreibendes Familienmodell mit alleinerziehender Amme und antiautoritär erzogenem Mädchen mit Pipi Langstrumpf-Anleihen, die in einer schwimmenden Ein-Zimmer-WG auf einen amerikanischen Trapper-Super-Helden mit Kiemen hinter den Ohren ("Du kannst ja unter Wasser atmen!") treffen. Ein Mann wie Flipper gegen den vollzogenen Klimawandel. Super-stunt-Gewitter, Monumentalismus, Hollywood-Pathos.

Seit 2007 analogisieren wir auch den kompletten Ton. Die Nachvertonung von Teil 1 ist beim Einsprechen der französischen Tonspur angekommen. Auch Teil 4 ist bisher dreisprachig synchronisiert. Die Zahl der Vertoner/innen wächst täglich.

Eine DVD, die - unverkäuflich - das Material allen Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern zugänglich macht, enthält den Stand des Projekts vom Mai 2014

Seit 2007 nominiert Dein Klub Filme, die in die Logik und Ästhetik von W O T Ø R W O E R L D passen, zu "W O T Ø R W O E R L D Teil 2" bis "Teil 16" und dreht diese ebenso lippensynchron nach.

Stand April 2016: es sind 25 Minuten von Teil 2 gedreht (seit Februar 2007), Teil 3 ist beendet (seit November 2007) und im September 2009 wurde Teil 4 begonnen (2 Stunden und 10 Minuten sind gedreht).

Teil 2: "Nightmare Dryland"

Der Mariner hat das Weite gesucht und er spürte warum: "Hier bewegt sich nichts richtig", begründet er am Ende von Teil 1 seine überraschende Flucht zurück in die Wotorwoerld gegenüber seinem Mädchenfreund "Enola", für die er immerhin die Exxon Valdez in die Luft gesprengt hat.

"Es ist die Landkrankheit", vermutet sie, doch er weiß: "Es ist mehr als nur das."
Dieses "Mehr" entfaltet der albtraumhafte Teil 2. Die Saga wendet sich zur gnadenlosen Horror Story.

"Enola", alias "Hummelchen" findet auf dem Trockenen jede Menge Ihresgleichen und ihr infantiler Humor regiert, wo "Helen" und ihre neuen Nachbarinnen für waschmittelwerbungsblonde Harmonie der 70er sorgen und Vaterfiguren sich durch debile Tollpatschigkeit symbolisch permanent selbst entmannen, zur großen nervtötenden Gaudi der ganz Kleinen. Keine Welt für Helden, das hat der "Mariner" richtig gespürt, sondern Abenteuer, deren Seichte jedem anständigen Wotorwoerldbewohner eine Gänsehaut in den Nacken treibt.
Und doch gibt es Kreaturen, die Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit kennzeichnet, und die (fast) bedingungslos liebenswert erscheinen: Der Hund "Bootsmann", der grundsätzlich mit seiner langen schlabberigen Zunge zu erkennen gibt, wie sehr ihm alles zum Hals raushängt, oder Stina, die zwar noch Non-Smoker ist, aber das bösartige Lächeln eines "Nord" mühelos in den Schatten stellt.
Die zur Drehbuchautorin von Teil 2 gekürte Astrid Lindgren legte mit der geheimnisvollen Benennung von Dryland als "Saltkrokan" (Hummelchen: "Das heißt Salzgrill.") die Spur des Horrors: Dryland extra dry.

Teil 3: "Enola Saga".

Ekuseru-Enola ("sie hält nie die Klappe") befindet sich mitten in der Pubertät und verliebt sich unglücklich in Tobey ("sieht Scheiße aus"), den Lieblingsnachkommen des alten Deacon, der unter dem Decknamen "Il Palazzo" im Auftrag der Smokermacht "ACROSS" von einer fliegenden "Deace" aus Dryland verheert hat.

Sie schlägt sich tapfer mit Biyou-fist-Kampftechniken gegen die Gangs der Wüste und verwandelt sie zur Strafe in süße Püppchen oder Teddies. Aber wie der "Mariner" sieht sie mit gebrochenem Herzen, dass es keine wahre Liebe für sie gibt. Mit der Kugel aus dem Revolver von "Tobey" in der Brust muss ihr, wie einst ihm, dämmern: "Ich bin nur ein Stück Dreck für Dich."

Ästhetisch und von der spielerischen Inhaltlichkeit gestaltet sich die analoge Umsetzung der Anime-Vorlage von Nabeshin bzw. Koshi Rikdo in ihrer Dynamik und Abstraktion mit realen Klubbesuchern extrem spannend.

Tomoko Tatsui hat als Muttersprachlerin den Original-Text in lateinischen Buchstaben aufgeschrieben. Dies garantiert jetzt noch mehr Authentizität bei den Bildunterschriften der film stills in der Online-Doku (Spalte links) und ermöglicht eine lebendige Nachvertonung von Teil 3

Teil 4: "Down to Wetland"

Dieser Film umreißt in Pro- und Epilog mit einer epischen Klammer das gesamte lange und erfüllte Leben Enolas, setzt dann aber einen Schwerpunkt auf ihre erste große Liebe im jungen Erwachsenenalter. Unglücklich verlobt startet sie von Dryland aus mit einem einrümpfigen aber mehrkammerigen Boot in eine neue Welt, doch eine Katastrophe macht die Begegnung mit dem Liebhaber, der ihr auf See begegnet, zu einer Erfahrung der Unendlichkeit. Gebrochene Herzklappen statt Kiemen lassen kein Auge trocken. 187 Minuten, Alternatives Ende, große Bilder.

Dein Klub (Your Klub) shoots W O T Ø R W O E R L D

Over the course of the last 14 years "Dein Klub" (Your Club) an artists gathering in Stuttgart, Germany, has been producing W O T Ø R W O E R L D. The project is a 136 minutes movie shot in the club, that aims to achieve lip-synchronicity with the 1995 Hollywood film epic that goes by the name of "Waterworld". The infamous Kevin Costner production features Costner as mutant hero in a post apocalyptic science fiction scenario of melted polar ice caps. Waterworld was the most expensive feature film of its time but unlike Titanic, its successor in this financial capacity, the film flopped at the box office.

Dein Klub is a storage chamber in the backyard of the small but influential artist run event-space "Oberwelt" in Stuttgart. For the past 21 years Dein Klub has been a public meeting place. On Monday nights we gather in the confinement of twelve and a half square metres, often crafting away at this project. All costumes and props are improvised and spontaneously sourced from the room or its occupants. Since the Club is always popular with visitors - local and from abroad - and everybody willing to participate gets involved, W O T Ø R W O E R L D so far has accumulated a cast of about 1050 acting participants. With this ever-growing community behind it, the characters of the movie are impersonated by a changing cast.

Our choice of Waterworld out of all other films has been subject to many discussions. It has been intimated that it was a selection of the "best" of the worst, but there are more reasons than this.

Like no other movie Costner's Waterworld aims to be both hardcore action film and moralistic family tale - a bizarre and peculiar spectrum to cover. Like many epic Hollywood movies it strives to tailor-make dreams and mythologies to a global mass audience. Here in our cosy little chamber in Stuttgart, we conjure up the Pacific Ocean- the projection surface for the unconscious and cosmic mother- on a weekly basis. A boyish joy of ingeniously assembling a vehicle from trash and the pride in its detailing are an underlying theme of this film that beautifully suits our production methods and process. As film-makers we keep moving between baffled analysis, enthusiasm and euphoria. And the army of actors grows, shouting in one voice: We are the film industry!

In 2003 we started working in a cloned copy of Dein Klub titled "Dein Klon" (Your Clone). Retaining the measurements and proportions of the original storage chamber, Dein Klon is made of wood and transparent plastic sheeting. This art installation that serves as a film production facility and social space has been touring film and arts festivals, museums and public galleries throughout Europe. Involving people in all of these places, clones have been constructed and activated in Vienna, Venice, Russia, Armenia, Munich and various towns in Germany.

WOTØRWOERLD was premiered at the FilmHaus in Stuttgart in January 2008. Ever since we have been working on replacing the original soundtrack with a soundtrack of our own.

Future episodes

Since 2007 Dein Klub has nominated more films to be shot according to the principles we established in WOTØRWOERLD, forming part 2-16. Our choices aim to establish aesthetic and logical continuity with part 1 in an effort to perpetuate the myths that part one did not bring to a conclusion.

Part 2
"Nightmare Dryland"

The Mariner has done a runner, following his instincts. By the end of Part 1 he had come to realize that "Things don't move right here". This is how he justifies his unexpected escape back to WOTØRWOERLD to his girl friend Enola for whom - after all - he blew up the Exxon Valdez. "It's land sickness" Enola reasons, but he knows better: "It is more than that." This "more" unfolds over the course of the nightmarish Part 2. For this sequel of the WOTØRWOERLD saga the Swedish childrens' book author Astrin Lindgren was proclaimed script writer. In mysteriously renaming "Dry Land" as "Saltkrokan" Lindgren laid down the trail of fear. The saga turns into a merciless horror story. "Enola" - all of a sudden called "Bumble Bee" - finds more of her type on the dry, and the reign of her childish humour begins. It is a world of bleached 1970's harmony, brushed and ironed by blonde women, where daft men are condemned to constant symbolic self castration - all to the excruciating amusement of the little ones. No place for heroes- the mariner was not betrayed by his instincts, all right. However, there are creatures who value their freedom and independence like "Boatsvain" the dog or "Stina" who might not be a smoker yet but whose vicious smile dwarfs that of the likes of "North".

Part 3
"Enola Saga".

Ekuseru-Enola, now right in the middle of her adolescence falls in one sided love with Tobey. He is the favourite offspring of "Deacon" alias "Il Palazzo" who was hired by the smoker force "ACROSS" to devastate Dryland.
Ekuseru - Enola is now a master of the Biyou fist fighting technique, which she employs generously to clear a path through the deserts, but just like the "Mariner" she comes to realise with a broken heart that true love does not exist for her. Carrying the bullet from Tobey's revolver under her heart, she can't but realise: " I am only a piece of dirt to you!" It has turned out to be an exciting enterprise to translate the aesthetic language of the original anime by Nabeshin & Koshi Riko into a production with real life characters produced true to the principles of the Club/Clone.

"Down to Wetland" The

Teil 4: "Down to Wetland"

In its Pro- und Epilogue this film draws with a epic bracket the whole long and fullfilled life of Enola, but then sets a focus onto her first great love in adolescence. Unhappily engaged she starts from Dryland with a boat with one hulk, but several chambers into a new world, but a catastrophe turns the encounter with the lover, who meets her on the sea, into an expierence of infinity. Broken heart valves instead of gills let no eye dry. 187 minutes, alternatives end, great images.

From 1995 the film Waterworld, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, was running in german cinemas. At that time it was the most expensive film in the world - and a flopp.

W O T Ø R W O E R L D is the story about a stone age high tech Robinson Crusoe without an island who falls into difficulties with his Catamaran. He is threatened with execution by the degenerate scrap of a community but luckily for him, his imminent end is interrupted by a battle. A horde of sail-hating evil 'smokers' on watermotorcycles attack the metal sheet castle. In the last second our hero is rescued by an innkeeper and nurse who is left responsible for the foundling who bares a tatoo of a mythical map on his back.

" Dein Klub " ("ton Club") accueille qui veut bien s'y rendre depuis 21 ans, chaque lundi à partir de 21h et sans période de relâche, dans un débarras de 12,5 m2 situé dans le jardin de l'espace d'exposition associatif Oberwelt e.V. à Stuttgart.
A partir de 2003 ceux qui pénètrent l'espace confiné de Dein Klub sont invités à participer au projet W O T Ø R W O E R L D.
Individuellement ou en groupe, ils y visionneront des scènes originales plus ou moins longues du film hollywoodien quasi-éponyme de 1995, "Waterworld", bide mémorable superproduit par Kevin Costner (qui en endosse par ailleurs le rôle principal). Un plan est isolé, choisi en fonction du nombre de participants et de leur disponibilité, afin d'être analysé en termes de construction, de rythme et de composition. Chacun reproduit ensuite au mieux le rôle d'un acteur, ses mouvements, ses déplacements. Les costumes et les effets spéciaux font eux-mêmes l'objet d'une minutieuse restitution avec les moyens du bord. Le rythme des dialogues, la composition de chaque plan sont scrupuleusement respectés. Le son est finalement synchronisé avec l'original en post-production.
Environ 450 acteurs se sont relayés pour rejouer chaque plan (de quelques secondes à une longue séquence) et entre autres, la figure de "Mariner" fluctue tout au long du film, selon l'âge, la corpulence, l'identité sexuelle, le style vestimentaire (etc.) de la personne qui l'interprète.
A la suite de "Waterworld", W O T Ø R W O E R L D s'est prolongé en "parties" qui se succèdent selon une logique narrative décidée par un collège (variable) de participants. Ces parties (pour l'instant au nombre de 4, il est prévu d'en réaliser 16) sont réalisées d'après des "modèles" filmiques emblématiques, choisis par ce même collège de participants parmi les abîmes du patrimoine cinématographique mondial. Ainsi la partie 2, "Nightmare Dryland", est-elle conçue d'après la série télévisuelle suédoise "Vi på Saltkråkan" (elle-même tirée d'un roman d'Astrid Lindgren). La partie 3, "Enola Saga", prend quant à elle pour modèle l'anime "Heppoko Jikken Animation Excel Saga" (1999), réalisé par Shin'ichi Watanabe d'après le manga Japonais de Koshi Rikudo, "Excel Saga". La partie 4, "Down to Wetland" a enfin pour modèle le "Titanic" de James Cameron (1997).
En 2003, après avoir reçu 850 participants, le lieu de tournage lui-même est "cloné" pour transporter le projet dans le monde. "Dein Klon" ("Ton Clone") reproduit les mesures et proportions exactes de "Dein Klub". Pour le gros-œuvre, il est fait de bâches en plastique transparentes. Cette installation artistique, dispositif permettant de créer un espace de production et un espace social ainsi qu'un lieu de tournage, a été montré dans différents festivals, musées et galeries à travers l'Europe. Chaque participant obtient un DVD du projet, principal moteur de sa diffusion.
